Kara Winkler earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree at the University of Kansas, her Master’s of Medical Science degree at St. Louis University and her Master’s of Science in Nursing, Nurse Midwifery degree at the State University of New York. Winkler’s heart has always been in women’s health. Her career began as a labor and delivery nurse, after which she served as a physician assistant for five and a half years. Her desire to return to labor and delivery inspired her to begin practicing nurse midwifery in 2005. As a certified nurse midwife, Winkler focuses on developing true partnerships with women regarding their healthcare; her philosophy is that women should be empowered to play an active role in their care. “I feel so fortunate to be a part of some of the most joyful moments in people’s lives,” she says. Outside of work, Winkler enjoys spending time with her husband, David, and three children, Molly, Brynn and Jack. When she’s not participating in the children’s activities at school or church, Winkler enjoys tennis, running and scrapbooking. |
